We thought about escaping over the passes to Tibet. #3 I had originally intended to escape alone, so that I wouldn?t have to consider a companion. But one day, my friend Rolf Magener told me that an Italian general had the same intentions as myself. We quickly joined forces on the basis that I would be responsible for all the planning, and he for the money and equipment. #4 I was often sent out to gather information for the escape plan, and I learned how to climb over the camp?s outer fence and into Marchese?s wing. I cut the wires, and we escaped into the jungle.
