I didn?t participate in class, and my report cards said I didn?t work or play well with others. But I had a daughter to raise, so I made it work. #2 I had always thought of myself as being a little odd, but I had a job, a child, and a husband, so I didn?t think that being on the spectrum would apply to me. I was surprised to learn that being on the spectrum is similar to being shy. #3 As I began to read about Asperger?s Syndrome, I realized that it was more than just a collection of social and communication problems. It was clear that I was on the autism spectrum, and I was relieved. It explained so much about my life that I?d thought was my fault. #4 I?ve been blogging about my experiences as an autistic adult since I was diagnosed with Asperger?s syndrome. I?ve learned that there are few traits that are universal among people on the spectrum, which makes it difficult to write a definitive book about life on the spectrum.
