Because he was a descendent of King David, all doors were open to him. Mary had relatives nearby, and could have turned to them, but did not. #4 The birth of Jesus was recorded in Luke, and it is evident that the story was composed by a messianic Jew at a very early stage in the life of the church. The text informs the reader that Joseph was of the house and lineage of David.
